May 22nd – June 23rd, 2018
@ “Tentacles Art Space”
Narathiwat 22 , Bangkok
Glass has traveled hand in hand with world history and human evolution for more than 3,500 years. Over this history, we tried to understand and find uses for the materials around us. Until today we have come to know glass in many forms and uses including as a material for fashioning art.
“Handle with care” is a glass art exhibition where the young female artists observe the physical and abstract elements of materials and experiment with a creation of new materials. The translucency, fragility and the chemical transformation of glass have introduced the artists to a new world of exploration. Moreover, the realization these new horizons has led the artists to new personal creation methods that conceptualize materials and metaphor.
About the artists
Thanaporn Sukcharoen (Chachoengsao, 1992) was raised in a family engaged in the aquarium manufacturing business. After observing her father construct glass aquariums, she became very familiar with the fragility, utility and strength of glass. After many years of artistic creation, Thanaporn now explores the special qualities of glass in various forms and using a multitude of methods. In this exhibition, Thanaporn displayed “colours and reflective light” by playing with the reflection of light on glass, - the same refraction of light you seeking materials like water and oil. Her art work in this exhibition is also part of her experimental work with mirror.
Thanaporn graduated from Silapakorn University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in sculpture. She had an exhibition at the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (BACC) in 2017 and is currently working as a Glass Artist at BGC Glass Studio, Bangkok Glass Company Limited and living in Pathumthani.
Titapa Rongruangvanich (Bangkok, 1991) is interested in the interaction between women and men from the point of the reproduction until the cell division during the human fertilization. As a mother, Titapa has experienced the never ending cycle of the married life: physicality, sensitivity and mental fragility, as well as the fertilization and division of the embryo cell during pregnancy. This was the main inspiration for her present sculptures. In this exhibition, Titapa interpreted definition of “the fragile relationship” showed in form of glass sculptures.
Titapa Roungruangvanich graduated from Silpakorn University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Initiative Program Mixed Media. She had a solo exhibition in Self-image at Ekamian, 2018, Brand New Art Projects (2015). Titapa was one of the artists on the stage of TED x Chiang Mai in 2016 in the UNDER THE SAME SUN exhibition, Art Centre of Silpakorn University. Today Titapa is working as a Glass Artist at BGC Glass Studio, Bangkok Glass Company Limited and living in Pathumthani with her son.
